Domino’s Deep Dish Kouki S14

ih0j3809s-copy
An evil grimace is obtained with an Origin Lab ‘Aggressive’  body kit. Front fenders measure in at 30mm over stock, while 50mm molded rear fenders out back give this S14 more curves than America’s Next Top Model! Going fast is easy in this S14, but when it’s time to stop this beast, a Brembo Gran Turismo big brake kit makes it even easier!
ih0j3883s-copy
This S14′s interior is en fuego! A Japanese market S15 Silvia steering wheel keeps the driver’s hands busy, and Bride Gaias Low-Max reclining buckets in carbon kevlar keep the driver and passenger snug while hitting the turns. Pioneer Avic D3 coupled with Infinity Kappa component speakers keeps the music in check and also assists with navigation, in case Mike gets lost.

Like most US 240s, this S14′s original engine was swapped in favor of a SR20DET motorset. However, unlike most other SR20DET swapped 240s, this S14 has incredibly cold AC! That’s a must for street driving in Arizona!
ih0j3879-copy
The GReddy TD06 25g turbo matched with a GReddy SUS exhaust manifold force feeds fresh air and makes sure this SR20 won’t be going hungry anytime soon!

Drifting is alive in Santo Domingo

You might not immediately think of the Dominican Republic when you think of drifting, but last month, the biggest drifting club in the DR, the Club Dominicano de Corredores de Drift (referred to as CDCD) put together a huge drift event and concert together with their racetrack’s title sponsor, Brahma Light. Casper Canul and I were invited to do a drift demo with our US-based Formula D cars during their drift series-opening event on September 19th, 2009.
We went out there a couple of days early to prep our cars, test and setup their new drift track, marking all of the clipping points and track outline of the course.  We spoke with the drivers and setup a driver’s meeting on competition day to go over all of the judging criteria and track rules with their local judges.
There was a huge turnout of fans at the event, with all 7,500 of the presale tickets being sold out. The crowd was ecstatic and going crazy during the entire event; in fact, we were able to hear the crowd’s roar from all the way down the runway to our pit area!
The track was actually an old airport runway that is now solely used for drifting in the Dominican Republic’s capital city of Santo Domingo. It is a pretty huge deal to have a track within the borders of the biggest city of Dominican Republic. This will guarantee spectators every time there is a drift event on this Brahma Light Drift Track. There was a huge crowd of people lining the outside fences with cars double parked, just dying to get a glimpse of the action on the track every single day we were running.
The straightaway is a huge runway, which is capable of 100+mph 4th gear entries. We moved the start line up so that the DR competitors would enter in 3rd and initiate with a big feint entry into the left land sweeper, finishing off with some esses. They are planning on repaving the track in the future to create even more course configurations. I can’t wait to see the new possibilities once it’s repaved!
Casper and I choreographed some drift demo routines for the pumped up Dominican crowd. They were all excited to see our fully built-high power competition drift cars. We are hoping that by them seeing our cars, it will inspire them to build up their cars more so they in turn can put on a better show for their local spectators.
During our demo sessions, we showed them some different style tandem runs – competition style, passing, synchronized manjis and routines. We even did some “Team Orange style” head-on passes, which the crowd went nuts about.
We did demos in between the tandem rounds and presented the semi finals with a Brahma Light model along side us in our cars throwing up a sign showing which round we were going into… It was kinda like how they do it in boxing, which I thought was a nice touch.
Our paddock was staged at the beginning of the straightaway, and the competition cars were covered under tents. No trailers were present at this event for pit areas, as most of the competitors drove their cars to the event. The Dominican Republic has some pretty loose automobile and traffic rules. You can pretty much drive almost anything you want, however you want in the streets of DR. Crazy! It’s a car enthusiast’s paradise.
There were some pretty diverse drift cars out on the circuit. The Dominican Republic has a very strong motorsports culture. People there are into either baseball or motorsports. They are actually really into JDM style tuning and importing their cars straight from Japan. However, for these imported cars to be street legal in DR, they have to be converted over to left hand drive. The car builders in DR do such a good job converting them, the interiors look stock! Casper and I were rolling around in LHD S15s, Mark IIs, Skylines, Evos, even little Glanzas were converted.
Carlos Rodriguez, featured in this pic with his ER34 Nissan Skyline, was the first person to drift in DR. He actually rented a track and drove an S-chassis he previously had and learned on his own 5 years ago. Carlos is the President of the CDCD Drift Club and the head organizer for this Brahma Light Drift Track series. He drove well this event and finished 4th.
We were pretty surprised how much the DR drifters improved from what we saw during the first practice day to the competition.  This track is a new course for them so they were still getting adjusted and learning how to run it. Most of them have not tried initiating with the feint or even tried clutch kicking yet. They have been used to initiating with the e-brake, which they learned from Casper when he went there last time.
This is the final battle between the two most aggressive DR drifters, Jonathan Castro in the red RPS13 and Juan Almonte in a white 4 door E36 M3. These guys were drifting clean with the feint entry all day. In the end, it was Jonathan that followed tighter and claimed the overall victory.
The podium finishers of the inaugural round of the Brahma Light Drift Track series were…
1st place: Jonathan Castro in the red RPS13
2nd place: Juan Almonte in a white 4 door E36 M3
3rd place: Ricardo Hurtado in a red 2 door E36 M3
They even gave Casper and I appreciation plaques for participating in the opening of the series.  This event turned out to be a great success and new beginning for drifting in the Dominican Republic!
After the podium ceremony, they switched gears and went into full concert mode. They had Calle13, a popular Puerto Rican hip-hop band perform in front of this sellout crowd. Calle13 is a five-time Latin Grammy Award and Grammy Award-winning Puerto Rican hiphop and alternative-reggaeton duo. This whole event was a huge production with separate VIP areas and catered food and vendors. Brahma Light and CDCD are currently planning on putting on more events like this in the near future. I am very excited to see what they have in store. I can’t wait to get back out there for more.

Fanatec CSR Elite force feedback racing wheel works with Xbox, PS3, and PC

Fanatec has been around for years now and the company makes some awesome racing wheels and pedals for gamers. The thing that I have long wanted for my Xbox 360 and the Forza Motorsports racing games is a steering wheel with force feedback. This has kept me using Gran Turismo and my Logitech G27 racing wheel.

Fanatec has a new and very awesome racing wheel that I really want for Forza 4 when it lands. The wheel is called the CSR Elite and it will work on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. The racing wheel is officially licensed by Microsoft and Turn 10 with the Forza logo right in the center of the racing wheel. The wheel doesn’t come with pedals, but if you own a Logitech G25 or G27 there is an adapter that will allow the use of those pedals and you can buy accessory pedals from Fanatec.
A pair of 120W motors handles the force feedback effects and there are two more vibration motors in the rim of the wheel. The center of the racing wheel is real carbon fiber and the wheel is actually trimmed in Alcantra for better grip. The wheel has paddle shifters, large fans that are silent for cooling the motors, and tuning functions to set the wheel to your liking. The Forza Motorsport CSR Elite Wheel isn’t available yet and pricing is known. This will be an expensive racing wheel; I suspect it will be in the $250 to $300 range. It is wireless with the Xbox 360 and needs a USB cable for the PC and PS3.

Racing Art - 1981 Suzuki GS1100 by Mike Sternick

Mike send me a few days ago these great pics of his last job he did on his GS 1100.
Four months and countless cases of beer later.A GS is reborn. Cheers

The Suzuki GS series is a line of motorcycles featuring air-cooled parallel-twin and Inline four engines with two or four valves per cylinder. The GS-range of models are considered to be examples of Universal Japanese motorcycles. The range of motorcycles in the series had engine displacements between 125 cc and 1100 cc, and include the GS400 and GS500. The GS series also include the original Katana series, although the 1100 had 16 valves, thus being a GSX. It was however still designated as a GS on some markets.

BMW concept cars BMW cars gallery

the BMW Concept Gran Coupé carries the essence of brand values and the genes of BMW design into the future. The concept shows the classic features of all BMW coupes: the long wheelbase, the vaulted bonnet with forward-pointing lines, the set-back greenhouse, the flat silhouette, the coupe-style roof line and the short front overhang reflect the dynamic potential of the vehicle.
The shaping style, which follows a coherent pattern down to the last detail, convincingly visualises BMW's philosophy as an automobile manufacturer. As with theConcept CS 2007, BMW once again sets new benchmarks in the design of 4-door coupes with a distinctive sporty character
The design of the concept study underscores the expertise of the brand BMW in the development of vehicles with a distinctive sporty character which offer space for more than two occupants. This reflects the particular quality of the BMW Group design philosophy, which consists in precisely and authentically translating the specific values of product substance into an aesthetically convincing shaping style.
BMW Concept Gran Coupé expresses sporty flair in its ultimate form. The 4-door vehicle clearly signals the very highest level of dynamic performance with its extremely elegant, flat and coupe-like proportions.
The kidney grille of the BMW Concept Gran Coupé has a flat appearance, with an asymmetrical side view which emphasises the close attention to detail. The central section with the kidney grille is formally separated from other BMW icons such as the headlights and air inlets.
The air inlet runs back an extremely long way into the side section, making the front section appear particularly wide.
BMW Concept Gran Coupé up to 100 millimetres flatter than the BMW 5 Series or the BMW 7 Series Sedan. The roof line tapers off gently into the rear, thereby elongating the vehicle's proportions. The forward-tilted shark nose visually extends the bonnet and creates characteristic BMW proportions with its forward-pointing dynamism. This stretched character is also highlighted by the side lines, where there is a deliberate avoidance of the typical sill line.
The frameless doors give the BMW Concept Gran Coupé a modern character since the glass surfaces appear to merge seamlessly without being interrupted by columns.
BMW Concept Gran Coupé permits a unique interaction between concave and convex surfaces. It also enables the light to be selectively reflected and channelled. Thus the exterior mirrors integrated in the window shaft appear very light, blending harmoniously into the side view since their shape assimilates the entire line styling. The BMW Concept Gran Coupéis a further development of the classic design of a notchback sedan in which the individual body sections merge harmoniously into a flat, elongated and at the same time dynamic overall image. The effect of this 4-door vehicle derives not just from specific highlights but from its overall appearance, which authentically reflects its character.
